Captions overlay for OBS, vMix and ProPresenter

The captions view at https://glossa.live/embed/{SERVICE_ID} is a plain web page that prints the latest translated sentences, so any tool that can show a web page can show live translation: a browser source in OBS or vMix, a web element in ProPresenter, a web page item in Proclaim. Styling is done entirely with URL parameters; see Embed and iframe parameters for the full list.

https://glossa.live/embed/YOUR_SERVICE_ID?lang=es&bg=000000&color=ffffff&font-size=40px&align=center&sentences=2&padding=24px
  • Size the source for a 1920×1080 canvas at about 1920 by 300 pixels, bottom of the frame. For a side screen, make it taller and set sentences=4.
  • Backgrounds are solid colours only. Pick the colour of the bar you want to draw, or match the slide behind it. An 8-digit hex with transparency is ignored.
  • One source shows one language. Add one source per language you need on screen.
  • Always set lang, otherwise the view falls back to the first language in Glossa’s list rather than yours.
  1. Sources, add Browser.
  2. Paste the URL above, set width 1920 and height 300, leave the custom CSS as it is.
  3. Position it at the bottom. The source stays blank until the service is live and someone speaks.

OBS can also feed the audio to Glossa at the same time, through a virtual audio cable or RTMP. See Streaming with OBS and a virtual audio cable and RTMP ingest and stream keys.

  1. Add Input, Web Browser.
  2. Paste the URL, set the size to match your canvas width and the height you want.
  3. Overlay it on your programme output.

ProPresenter displays the page as a Web element on a slide or as an overlay; Proclaim can show it as a web page item or, for captions under slides, through OBS with NDI. Both are written up step by step in Displaying translations in ProPresenter and Displaying translations in Proclaim with OBS.

Each overlay counts as one listener for its language and is billed per minute of speech, like any listener. A Spanish overlay running all service long bills Spanish for the whole service, whether or not anyone in the room picked Spanish on their phone.
